Introduction:

The Elective Abroad’s Pre-dentistry program is designed for students who aspire to take dentistry as a profession and have documented and demonstrated seriousness in their pursuit of Healthcare disciplines. To prequalify, one would either be an aspiring college student seeking to join a dental college or already in pre-dentistry program and are keen at getting a hands-on experience. The program integrates a number of learning components eg, group discussion sessions, time volunteering in community projects and time spent in hospitals shadowing dentists.

The uniqueness of the program is defined at its introduction to various clinical skills and allowing of pre-dentistry students to shadow dentists and observe procedures in a way that is hardly available to dental students.

The following are some of the skills & procedures that participants will be introduced to:

  • History taking and examination
  • General dental care, routine cleaning and check ups
  • Scaling, intra oral radiographs
  • Case management
  • Permanent and general fillings
  • Composite restorations
  • Treatment of gum diseases
  • Incision and drainage
  • Root canal treatment
  • Bridges, dental veneers and crowns
  • Maxillofacial procedures
  • Tooth extractions

We often organize dental outreach volunteer camps in communities and schools; participants in such would get exposed to management of dental carries and periodontal diseases. They will also have the opportunity to carry out community projects and volunteer activities.

The pre-dentistry program is structured, supervised and delivered by qualified dentists. It is our culture to ensure that participants are evaluated within and at the end of the program, thus awarding those who have met the program requirements with certificates of completion at the end. It is equally our commitment to completing required forms and documentary for those seeking college credits. To those who require recommendation letters for dental school, the program coordinator will be more than happy to avail them.

Objectives:

The following attributes are the key highlights of the program:

  • Seeks to give early and close exposure to dentistry for those who consider taking dentistry as a profession
